CUPS Breaks Ground On Future Home

There could not have been a better day to see the Calgary community come out in their numbers in support of a worthy cause. On a typical summer day with temperatures in the upper 20’s, CUPS and its community supporters broke grounds at its future home on 1001 – 10 ave SW.

The event marked the ongoing success of CUPS PAINT A PICTURE OF HOPE capital campaign and the official commencement of renovation works on its new facility.

Having been in works for the past four years, with the help of energy giants; Cenovus Energy and Encana Corporation, CUPS is now set to begin the implementation phase of its strategic plan to increase programs and services to accommodate an increase in demand from the community.

With the new facility, CUPS is set to increase its outcomes by an additional 30 per cent across programs and services. The most notable change will be the addition of a brand new child Development Centre at the new facility which will cater for children from the ages of 0 – 3 years of age.

In their remarks, both the Chair of the CUPS Board of Directors and the Executive Director of CUPS Health & Education Centres, Mr. Michael Lang and Carlene Donnelly respectively, thanked major donors to the campaign which included the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta, Cenovus Energy and Encana Corporation for their great community support.  Gratitude was also extended to all donors and the general public for their immense support of CUPS initiatives.

In attendance were two hundred participants that included personalities from the political, business, sports and faith communities.

CUPS expect renovation work to be completed in the summer of 2012.
